T.S.Chanakya also imparts training to three months Pre-sea cadets. Cadets undergoing Pre-sea training at T.S.Chanakya are sponsored by various Shipping companies.
For three months Pre-sea course, subjects taught are similar to those of B.Sc. (Nautical Sciences) but the course contents is brief and is meant only to familiarise the cadets with the ship’s equipment and basic of marine science so that after completion of the course they can join ship. After completion of 3 months Pre-sea training at Chanakya, they get 3 months remission of sea service for successfully completing the Chanakya training. They also get six months remission of sea time for records book, if complete, and further three months remission for successfully attending Lal Bahadur Shastri college of advanced Maritime studies & Research at Mumbai for six months. Hence, a cadet does only two years sea time after completing Chanakya training when he becomes eligible for promotion to second mates rank after passing second mates exams.
